Starlight Studios is a Seattle based recording and mixing studio. Nestled in a quaint Seattle neighborhood, Starlight Studios offers professional audio production services at a cost that fits the budget of any artist. Be it rock, punk, indie, or soul; we have the tools and skills ready to bring your artistic vision to life.
Have some songs that need to be recorded? We'll provide you space, pro-quality studio equipment and skilled engineers to capture your creativity. The best records start from the strongest possible foundations; so we work hard to get your music right at the source.
Whether you've recorded with us, or elsewhere, our engineers will take your material and give it the polish it deserves. We'll use studio tools like balance, EQ, compression, reverb and delay to sculpt your project to your vision.
The most powerful music has a clear artistic vision. Whether its structuring songs, finding the perfect guitar tone, or studying your favorite records, our engineers will work with you to develop a sonic landscape which lets your music convey its emotional message effectively.
The final step in any production. We'll take your mix and polish it into a finished product that can stand among your favorite records. With our trained ears and precise monitoring, you can be sure your tracks will be as loud and clear as any professional release.
Alex is an engineer, musician, and songwriter who cut his teeth recording and mixing in the Bellingham indie scene. He strives to capture the unique character of every individual artist. Be it a distant room-mic or an old cassette recorder, Alex will make you sound like you.
Ever wonder why old recordings sound richer, fuller, warmer, and more cohesive than many modern productions? Much of that sound comes from the tape machines used to record music up until around the 1990's when digital recording started to become much more ubiquitous.
Digital recording is superior to recording to tape in many aspects. It is generally faster, easier to edit, and virtually unlimited in terms of track counts and flexibility.
However, the limitations of recording to tape are what make it an awesome, magical and inspiring medium to record with. The natural vibe that comes from tracking to tape is unmistakable. Set track counts means making bold creative decisions, and limited editing capabilities force the artist to deliver inspired performances. Put simply: with tape there are no do-overs.
Starlight Studios is home to a Tascam 34 tape deck. A 4-track 1/4 inch recorder, perfectly calibrated and integrated into our workspace. The studio has a modular design, which allows the deck to be integrated into every session if desired.
Recording to tape is not right for every project, but please contact us if you'd like to track your project on our deck. We look forward to hearing from you!
